So, you’ve taken the “Who is your chicken soulmate?” quiz, and you’ve found your chicken breed soulmate!

But now you’ve got some questions…

  • How was your soulmate determined?

  • How many soulmate options are even available on the quiz?

  • How does your soulmate result stack up against everybody else’s?

Well, I’ve got all the answers for you in this post, and I think you’ll be surprised when you see which breeds are best for most people, and which breeds aren’t.

How was your chicken breed soulmate determined?

Your chicken breed soulmate was chosen based on your climate, your backyard setup, and your personal desires (which you expressed through your quiz answers).

How many chicken breeds does the quiz consider?

I compiled the quiz around 57 different chicken breeds. I actually started with a list of over 100 breeds, and then I narrowed that list down based on breed popularity, availability, and variety.

So, the quiz has 57 possible results!

How does your result compare with everybody else’s?

How many people have taken this quiz?

Thousands!

Which breeds are the least common soulmates?

The 10 least common results are listed below (starting with the least common):

  1. Campine

  2. Brahma Bantam

  3. Leghorn

  4. Bearded d’Uccle

  5. Andalusian

  6. Faverolles

  7. Ancona

  8. Bearded d’Anvers

  9. Australorp

  10. Wyandotte

These 10 breeds account for less than 0.5% of all the quiz results. Can you believe that?

Why are these results so shocking?

I developed this quiz after researching chicken breeds for over a year.

I’ve read every book, article, and anecdote I could find on over a hundred different breeds, and I’ve raised several breeds myself. I’ve written dozens of breed articles, outlined dozens more, and helped countless readers solve breed-specific problems.

I didn’t just create this quiz on a whim—the questions and answers are science- and experience-based.

And what do the results above tell us?

The great majority of people are buying the wrong chicken breeds—breeds that won’t thrive in their climate or backyard setup, and breeds that aren’t temperamentally compatible with them.

Just take a look at the most common quiz results. You’ll see breeds in there that many backyard keepers don’t even know exist—Barnevelders, Javas, Langshans, and Penedesencas! Yet, these are the breeds most suitable to the most number of people.

And then look at the least common quiz results. Some of these chickens are incredibly common among backyard keepers—Leghorns, Australorps, and Wyandottes, for example—but they aren’t ideal for most people.

In fact, I hear stories every year from people complaining about some of the breeds on this list. Their Leghorns are too aggressive. Their Australorps and Wyandottes are dying in the summer heat. Their Campines are too flighty. Their Anconas are getting frostbite.

Why is this the case? Why are people buying the wrong breeds for themselves?

My best guess is that most people are buying the cutest chicks they see without doing any of their research. What do you think?

Who’s your chicken soulmate?

Regardless of your quiz results, I want to know, who do you believe is your chicken soulmate and why?

My quiz results told me that Black Sex Links are my chicken breed soulmate—and I’m actually getting some Black Sex Link chicks next month! I’ve never had them before, and I can’t wait!

But you can see my true chicken soulmate below. She's my Ameraucana, Edy Bea. She’s sassy, she’s talkative, and she’s fully convinced she’s a princess—yeah, that last part may be my fault.

And, yes, my Edy Bea does have the cross-beak deformity, which is sadly common in Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers.

In fact, due to this disability, my entire life seems to revolve around keeping her happy and healthy. Can you believe she even has her own bedroom? (She goes in and out as she pleases, spending most of her day out with the flock—but yeah, she took over the spare room in our house and sleeps there every night.)

Before having chickens, I never in a million years thought I’d structure my entire schedule around a special needs bird—I actually originally thought I’d be eating my chickens (never gonna happen!). But I fell in love with this crazy little lady, and that’s something a quiz can never measure.
